Pattern Work Diary

This picture was taken at my home with a low shutter speed due to the flash used. I has good aspects such as the unpredictable patterns. However it could be improved by removing the flash setting and taking it with a higher shutter speed instead.







This picture was taken on southend-on-sea on a cold day, thus affecting the cold look of the pattern. The was a short shutter speed with a low ISO sensitivity giving it a clear look of a photo. The good aspect of this photo is that is it obvious to see the pattern. However this could be improved by framing the image so that the yellow on the left and right side is removed.

This final photo was also taken at southend-on-sea. The camera settings used was an ISO sensitivity of 100 and a short shutter speed since the lighting was generally bright. I believe that this photo could not be edited to improve it since it already shows the clear patterns of the bricklaying.

This photo has been edited so that the yellow layers of pattern are removed from the original piece. This makes the photo more visually pleasing in comparison to the original.

Pattern Straight Images

I think this image is a good representation of texture and pattern since it involves the pattern of the tiles and how the tiles texture. This could be seen as both a fixed and an unfixed pattern because it shows an orderly alignment of the tiles however the texture does not make it clear at the same time.

This photo is an example of an unfixed pattern since there is no way to geometrically predict the change from white to black. This appeals to me since it has me question what this surface could be and where it could have been taken.

This photo demonstrates also how building blocks can be placed to create patterns. In order to improve on this image, I will crop the right side of the image and reframe it to clearly show the fixed pattern in this image.

This photo also demonstrates how tiles can be arranged to create a pattern. It is fixed in regards to the tiles placement. However it is not fixed in regards to the tiles colour. This photo could also be improved my reframing the image to clearly show the picture.

This image shows the unfixed pattern of a wooden surface which could have the viewer question how the surface came about to look the way it does. This image could also be improved by rotating the image so that the linear motion of the pattern points up rather than it being slightly diagonal.

I have edited this image since the framing in the original image did not look as appealing compared to after editing. The image was simply rotated and then cropped to have the cement lines match the sides of the photograph.

Texture - tactile qualities of the physical surface of the object.

Seeing and capturing texture is based on one element - light. Texture can the accentuated by the side light of the early sun mornings or early evenings, or by overhead light when the sun is vertical and high in the sky.

Pattern - underlying structure that organises surfaces or structure in  a consistent, regular manner.

Can be described as a repeating unit of shape or form, but it can also be thought as the 'skeleton' that organises parts of a composition.

They are simply repeated shapes, colours or objects, ordered in either regular of irregular formations. Using pattern is key to good composition and can transform an otherwise bland image into something dramatic and eye catching. Patterns are formulated around us in natural and man made settings.

Regular patterns consist of line or colours that repeat in a strict formation. Filling a from with clear lines or geometric information.

Irregular lines direct contrast to regular patters. In this case, patterns can be found in irregular formations such as the natural world.
